RENEWING YOUR STRENGTHSERMON STARTER
One of my favorite phrases as time goes on is, "I've lived too long." Not all the changes in the world around us are good. Sometimes things happen and my soul grows weary. My heart feels heavy and I just want to go home. There is a spirit in the age we live in that reminds us of the soon-coming of the Lord. The Apostle Paul told us that as we approached the end of the age that human evil would increase.
13 But evil men and impostors will grow worse and worse, deceiving and being deceived. 2 Timothy 3:13
Lawlessness and Godlessness are increasing. We are approaching how it was in the Days of Noah in Genesis 6:5-6
5 Then the LORD saw that the wickedness of man was great in the earth, and that every intent of the thoughts of his heart was only evil continually.
Jesus compared His Second Coming with the Days of Noah.
The Lord's power to restore strength to His Saints is available. It was 2002 when Lois and I were at a HNI retreat in Atlanta. A full year later, I received 3 stints that gave me my life back. Pastor Marty invited an African American Bishop to lead worship. He introduced this amazing song. In the song I heard the Lord's Promise of Renewing and Restoration. He played the piano and began to sing. . . I WILL RE-STORE! I WILL RE-STORE! I WILL RE-STORE TO YOU ALL OF THIS AND MORE! At that moment my strength was renewed. I was encouraged to keep on believing and trusting God. . .He is a God that keeps on Renewing Our Strength. . . RENEWING YOUR STRENGTHRECEIVING GOD’S RENEWING STRENGTH Isaiah 40:27-31 - Psalm 103:1-5 “Life, time and circumstance tend to wear us out. At the end of our day we fall into our beds exhausted, worn out. Through the miracle of sleep we awaken to face a new day, renewed, restored. It is God's miracle of restoring our physical, emotional and spiritual strength." Pastor Phil <><<
". . .but those who hope in the LORD (wait on the Lord) will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint.” Isaiah 40:31 Renew = חָלַף = KAW-LAF = Sprouting Again, Grow Up
There are Four Ways the Lord Renews us: I. HE REPLENISHES US - Psalm 50:10 10 For every beast of the forest is Mine, And the cattle on a thousand hills. A. God owns it all 1. His desire is to work w/us to achieve His Purposes - Ps. 50:14-15 14 Offer to God thanksgiving, And pay your vows to the Most High. 15 Call upon Me in the day of trouble; I will deliver you, and you shall glorify Me." 1. The Second Way the Lord Renews us: II. HE REFRESHES US - Jeremiah 31:25 25 I will refresh the weary and satisfy the faint." A. Consider: A long drink of cold water on a hot day B. Jesus promised refreshing to the woman at the well - John 4:13-14 13 Jesus answered and said to her, "Whoever drinks of this water will thirst again, 14 but whoever drinks of the water that I shall give him will never thirst. But the water that I shall give him will become in him a fountain of water springing up into everlasting life." 1. The out-cast woman He refreshes with acceptance and love 2. Refreshes her with His deepest teaching on spirituality RENEWING YOUR STRENGTH, cont., p.2
C. We Fall into His Presence, Rest and Love - EG. The Nestea dip. . . The Third Way the Lord Renews us: III. HE RESTORES US - Joel 2:25;28 25 "So I will restore to you the years that the swarming locust has eaten, The crawling locust, The consuming locust, And the chewing locust, My great army which I sent among you. 28 "And it shall come to pass afterward That I will pour out My Spirit on all flesh; Your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, Your old men shall dream dreams, Your young men shall see visions. A. “RESTORE” = Hebrew = nIL = SHAW-LAM = Peace in all you do 1. Similar to Hebrew word, "Shalom" = Greeting and Goodbye 2. SHAW-LAM means "Peace surround you in all you do" 3. God promises to bring back what was taken, EG. Job B. Whatever God removes He Restores 1. Joel was a So. Kingdom prophet (Judah) 2. He prophesied punishment for Judah's Idol Worship 3. (punishment / discipline) 1. Tempting to Obsess on Trials, not forget them 2. The Lord's Promise is sure: He will Restore. . . 3. Press On! - Phil. 3:13,14 13 Brethren, I do not count myself to have apprehended; but one thing I do, forgetting those things which are behind and reaching forward to those things which are ahead, 14 I press toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus.
The Fourth Way the Lord Renews: IV. HE RENEWS OUR STRENGTH - Isaiah 40:31 31 But those who wait on the LORD Shall renew their strength; They shall mount up with wings like eagles, They shall run and not be weary, They shall walk and not faint. RENEWING YOUR STRENGTH Isaiah 40:27-31 (NKJV) 27 Why do you say, O Jacob, And speak, O Israel: "My way is hidden from the LORD, And my just claim is passed over by my God"? 28 Have you not known? Have you not heard? The everlasting God, the LORD, The Creator of the ends of the earth, Neither faints nor is weary. His understanding is unsearchable. 29 He gives power to the weak, And to those who have no might He increases strength. 30 Even the youths shall faint and be weary, And the young men shall utterly fall, 31 But those who wait on the LORD Shall renew their strength; They shall mount up with wings like eagles, They shall run and not be weary, They shall walk and not faint. Psalm 103:1-5 1 A Psalm of David. Bless the LORD, O my soul; And all that is within me, bless His holy name! 2 Bless the LORD, O my soul, And forget not all His benefits: 3 Who forgives all your iniquities, Who heals all your diseases, 4 Who redeems your life from destruction, Who crowns you with lovingkindness and tender mercies, 5 Who satisfies your mouth with good things, So that your youth is renewed like the eagle's.

A Prayer of Restoration
Lord, I crawled across the barrenness to You with my empty cup,
uncertain, but asking any small drop of refreshment.
If only I had known You better, I'd have come running with a bucket.
RENEWING YOUR STRENGTH, cont. IT BEGINS AND ENDS WITH LOVE When you thing about it, our biological, spiritual life begins and ends with love. We have our spiritual conception in the Heart of God Himself. Before we were born. . .He knew us. . .We were sent from His divine heart through an act of love that began as a “gleam in our earthly father’s eye.” In that awesome act of love and giving we were conceived physically and given human life. SELF-SACRIFICE “There is no greater love than this: that a man lay down his life for his friends. . .” John 15:13 Then, your mother in an awesome, self-sacrificing act of love gave up almost a year of life and journeyed to the edge of life and death to give you the right to physical life. The physician cut the cord that bound you to your mother in that inseparable bond of mother-child physical love. She then continues that self-denying laying down of herself in continuous, on-going love to see you are properly nurtured until you can care for yourself. Your physical father has been a part of than on-going cycle of love. He has sacrificed himself over and over, denied himself sleep, luxuries, financial resources, time, in favor of your nurture and care. He laid down his life year after year to prosper you. He, too, was motivated by a special kind of love, and was a part of the Heavenly Father’s love. THE HUMAN LIFE CYCLE In adulthood you are connected by that love through repeating the cycle, finding others to whom you can give yourself unreservedly and completely. You select a mate, marry, find meaning and purpose in your life as an extension of the repository of love that is within your heart. You are carried through the developmental changes of life on the wings of that love until one day, you end your biological life. If all goes well, you end your biological life, surrounded by those you love and pass over and transcend this life into the Arms of the One who sent you. Beginning and ending in the Arms of God’s Love.
“No man can take them out of My Father’s Hand, I and My Father are one.”
RENEWING YOUR STRENGTH, TEXT Malachi 3:8-10 8“Will a man rob God? Yet you rob me. “But you ask, ‘How do we rob you?’ “In tithes and offerings. 9You are under a curse—the whole nation of you—because you are robbing me. 10Bring the whole tithe into the storehouse, that there may be food in my house. Test me in this,” says the LORD Almighty, “and see if I will not throw open the floodgates of heaven and pour out so much blessing that you will not have room enough for it.” ********************************** 1 Corinthians 14:18-22 18I thank God that I speak in tongues more than all of you. 19But in the church I would rather speak five intelligible words to instruct others than ten thousand words in a tongue. 20Brothers, stop thinking like children. In regard to evil be infants, but in your thinking be adults. 21In the Law it is written: “Through men of strange tongues and through the lips of foreigners I will speak to this people, but even then they will not listen to me,” says the Lord. 22Tongues, then, are a sign, not for believers but for unbelievers; prophecy, however, is for believers, not for unbelievers. ******************************* Isaiah 28:11,12 11 “For with stammering lips and another tongue will he speak to this people. RENEWING YOUR STRENGTH, TEXT, cont. Joel 2:25-2825And I will restore to you the years that the locust hath e eaten, the cankerworm, and the caterpillar, and the palmerworm, my great army which I sent among you. 26And ye shall eat in plenty, and be satisfied, and praise the 27And ye shall know that I am in the midst of Israel, and that I am the LORD your God, and none else: and my people shall never be ashamed. 28And it shall come to pass afterward, that I will pour out my spirit upon all flesh; and your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, your old men shall dream dreams, your young men shall see visions: 29And also upon the servants and upon the handmaids in those days will I pour out my spirit. ************************************ Lamentations 5:21,22 1Restore us to yourself, O LORD, that we may return; renew our days as of old 22unless you have utterly rejected us and are angry with us beyond measure.
